This nice Upper East Side hangout serves up a variety of well-prepared coffee and chocolate drinks. They also have happy hour on weekdays. Serves alcohol.
CLOSED FOR BUSINESS. I was just there this morning and there was a "Seizure Notice" on the front door. Apparently the landlord has taken possession of the property.
Best mochas out there. Not too sweet, just right.
I love this place. The upper east side generally isn't known for comfortable places to chill out, but DT-UT is a definite exception. There are all sorts of nooks and crannies in which to sit and sip, and of course the place is wired so a lot of people show up with laptops and hunker down for hours of work. Couches are old and well-worn, coffee tables abound, and there are easy chairs along with a few new tables with barstools. It's a great environment, though as the night gets later the music gets louder (which generally works well, just don't necessarily think of it as a quiet late night out). The homemade soups are unsung heroes; if you're hungry, be sure to order one of them.
Couples like to chill here, too. The availability of alcohol (designer beers like Chamay; wine; normal beer) and the s'mores for two make it a hot place for a couple to just come and chat.
DT-UT is packed on the weekends. I most enjoy it on weeknights, when there's a bit more space to hang out and greater assurance that there'll be an open seat.
